Goodson Dominates to Collect Second Win of the YearMYRTLE BEACH, SC – Hal Goodson told a reporter Friday night he felt no extra pressure racing at Myrtle Beach Speedway, just a mere 60 miles or so from his hometown of Darlington, South Carolina. Goodson became the first driver to win from the pole position since October of last year when he took the checkered flag in the running of the Jackaroo Sauces 250 presented by Black’s Tire Service Saturday night. It was his second win of the 2001 season. Goodson outlasted local favorite Jason Sarvis to become the third driver to collect multiple wins in the Southern Division of the USAR Hooters ProCup Series. Goodson joins Bobby Gill and Shane Huffman who have won three times and twice, respectively. Steve Christian celebrated the birth of his daughter Saturday with a solid third-place finish. Mardy Lindley fourth and Daniel Johnson completed the top-five. “We had it rolling tonight,” said an ecstatic Goodson. “We made some changes on the car during a pit stop which made me have to move up through the field but the car was great all night long.” A group of approximately 400 fans made the one-hour trip to see their hometown hero race and they were not disappointed. “It is great getting the win in front of our family and friends,” added Goodson. "This (win) should get us back up to maybe second in the points.” Goodson won the Lance Snacks Pole Award with a time of 20.635 (93.860 mph) and quickly jumped out to lead by as many as 10 car lengths during the first half of the race. Goodson led the first 95 laps until Lee Tissot grabbed the top spot on lap 96. Goodson was able to power his Carlin Financial Chevrolet back in front and remained there until the leaders pitted under caution on lap 145. Sarvis took advantage of a quick pit stop by the Bryant Heating and Cooling team to give him the lead on the restart. Sarvis remained out front until Goodson took the lead for the final time on lap 210. “I can’t say enough about this crew,” said an ecstatic Sarvis. “We had a lot of people here tonight supporting this team and while we wanted to win for them and Bryant, this second place finish is good and we will build on that for the next race. The race was slowed nine times by caution for 50 laps. Several cars were involved in multi-car collisions with Bill Plemons, Jr., Mart Nesbitt and Carl Long all having to park early due to accident damage in separate on-track incidents. Gill and Huffman were racing hard for position on lap 236 when the two made contact in turn one sending Huffman into the wall to bring out the final caution of the night. Gill was able to continue and finished 10th with Huffman holding on for a 12th-place finish one-lap down. Dell Murphy was also returning home and collected his best finish of the year in sixth. Stacy Puryear and Mario Gosselin followed Murphy, with Tissot and Gill completing the top-10. Goodson also collected the Lucas Oil Products Halfway Leader Award of $1,000 for leading at lap 125. Sarvis grabbed Miller Lite Rookie of the Race honors with his runner-up finish and Mike Laughlin, Jr. overcame a practice crash and provisional start to finish 13th and win the W.J. Plemons Investments Hard Charger Award. The win also gives Goodson a 17-point lead over Gill (1,074-1,057). Jay Fogleman entered the race in second place, but fell to third in the standings after a blown motor ended his night on lap 55. The USAR Hooters ProCup Series Southern Division returns to action in two weeks at Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, Virginia. Gill is the defending champion of the Food City 250. Relsults 6-9
