Peters Takes True Value 100

South Boston, VA…."America's Hometown Track" roared to life on a hot and sunny afternoon with the running of the True Value 100 for the legendary late Model Stocks. In an emotionally charged event, young Timothy Peters whose father recently passed way, set the Textilease/Fallen Trucking #2 on the pole with a qualifying time of 16.002. NASCAR Atlantic Seaboard Regional points leader, Brandon Butler, qualified his #29 Bailey's machine on the outside pole, but started the race from the sixth position due to the competition rule, and Sophomore driver, Scott Worley inherited the outside pole.

Peters put the pedal to the metal at the drop of the green flag and led the caution-marred event from flag to flag despite strong challenges from first, Eddie Johnson and then H.C. Sellers, III. Contact on lap 48 between the fourth and fifth place cars of Butler (#29) and Worley (#88) collected many of the competitors, including Jim Sink (#94), Kirk Stewart (#4) and Rodney Cook (#1). Another incident on Lap 63 further reduced the field as the cars of Greg Davis (#45), Chris Hatchett (#12), Owen Miller (#82), and Brad Kurth (#9) were added to the list of the wounded or missing in action. Finishing a close second behind Peters was H.C. Sellers, III (# 83), with Wayne Grubb (#41), Brandon Butler (#29) and Chad Mason (#18) rounding out the top five. With the win, Peters has closed the gap on point's leader Brandon Butler to twelve.

After a Polish Victory Lap in honor of his late father, an emotional Timothy Peters in Victory Lane dedicated the race to his father who he was sure watching from heaven. Please continue to keep Timothy and the entire Textilease/Fallen Trucking team in your prayers, as car owner Goo Fallen is still at home recovering from a heart condition.

The American General Finance Limited Sportsman cars ran Twin 40-lappers, and on this hot Sunday afternoon, Ryan Francisco had things pretty much his way. Charles Barnes qualified the Bailey's # 99 on the pole, but Francisco quickly worked his way to the front and never looked back. Following Francisco across the line in the first event were Charles Barnes (#99), Chris Blalock (#2), Billy Myers (# 05) and Richard Hylton (#31). After exiting his car in victory lane, a happy but hot, Francisco was overcome by the heat but quickly recovered and was more than ready for the second race.

The second event was all Ryan Francisco. He led from green to checkers with Charles Barnes (#99) once again following him across the finish line. Billy Myers (#05) came home third, with Wayne Roach (#71) and Richard Hylton (#31) rounding out the top five. With his "double-killing", Ryan Francisco closed the distance between himself and points leader, Billy Myers to eight.

In what became the race that would never end, the always-competitive Super Stocks took to the track. Brent Evans (# 44), who has become a familiar figure in Victory Lane, once again brought home the top prize. In what was a super competitive race, Benny Franklin (#97) came home second, point's leader Billy Goble finished third, Ron Davis (#4) and Troy Dowdy (# 02) finished fourth and fifth respectively.

The Pure Stock 4's were also in action in their 15-lap feature event. Scott Phillips (#1) drew the coveted pole position, but was unable to hold off a hard charging Augie Saccoccio (#15) who once again visited Victory Lane at South Boston. Lee Anderson (#01) brought his machine home in second with pole-sitter Scott Phillips (#1) finishing his day in the third position.

The thundering sounds of racing will be heard again on August 11th for a hot night of action with new country FOX 99.9 FM. Nashville recording artist John Sines, Jr. Will be our special guest. Hitting the charts last year with his debut release "And the Horse That They Rode in On", Sines who recently released "The Black #3", as a tribute to the late Dale Earnhardt, will perform during pre-race activities.
