NEW WINNERS TAKE TO VICTORY LANE AT SOUTH BOSTONSouth Boston, VA....Great weather, good times, and awesome racing mowed over the fans for the Charles Anderson Lawn Care 100 on Saturday night. The Turn #1 Club and new Pavilion were in full motion with participants enjoying the splish-splash and fine food. Closed-Circuit Television provided by Danville Community College kept visitors at the concession stands on track with racing action to fill out the updated and improved amenities at "America's Hometown Track. Brandon Butler captured the RaceRap.com pole award with a lap speed of 90.469 mph (15.917) to start the Textilease Late Model Stock from the top spot. 2000 Rookie of the Year, Scott Worley, lined up on the outside as the field of 19 headed for turn one. Butler (#29 Chester, VA) lit the early fire and blazed out front. Lap 15 turned down the heat with a caution in Turn Two. Timothy Peters (#2 Providence, NC) challenged on the restart, but Butler held the lead before another caution on lap 24. Two cars dropped from the race for mechanical problems, as Peters drove for second behind Butler. Worley (#88 Long Island, VA) and H.C. Sellers III (Ringgold, VA) battled side-by-side until halfway. Ashland, VA's Eddie Johnson worked his way around Sellers and made his way to Worley's bumper. Peters battled Butler, as Worley worked the "Petty" high side to fend off a hard charging Johnson. Another spin in Turn Two brought a call from the Official's Tower, with Worley and Johnson on a photo shot at the caution line. Worley restarted in third, as Johnson waged a war on his bumper. Peters again pressured Butler for 10 laps, but could not make the pass. Johnson worked under Worley for more than 15 laps to finish the event in a close fourth. Butler extinguished Peters' fire to retain the Track Points lead and bolster his Atlantic Seaboard lead with win number seven. Worley finished third after uncharacteristically running the high line around the fabled asphalt oval. First time track winners made history in three different divisions with Wayne Roach (Limited Sportsman), Brian King (Southern Vintage Modifieds), and Brent Evans (Super Stocks) all claiming their first victory at South Boston Speedway. Wayne Roach (#71 Chatham, VA) went wire to wire in the first of twin 40s for the American General Finance Limited Sportsman. "Yea, I tell you, I gotta thank my crew and sponsors for this first win here at South Boston." Richard Hylton (#31 Danville, VA) posted his first victory of 2001 in the second 40 lap Limited event. Roach finished second, with Billy Myers (#05 Hurt, VA), Chris King (#13 Durham, NC), and Bill Moshenek (#27 Providence, NC) taking Top 5 finishes. Brian King (#87 Altamahaw, NC) made his debut in the Southern Vintage Modified event lapping most of the field and claimed the win. "I usually run the Late Model here, but I was asked to drive in a modified tonight, I can corner faster in a modified!" King exclaimed. Greg Evans (#44 Durham, NC) powered his way into victory lane after running a hard charge to claim a Super Stock Division win. In his first trip to the Textilease Podium, Evans exclaimed, "I think I finally figured out the set up here, I love to race this track!" Pure Stock 4 winner Augie Saccoccio had an emotional victory celebration as he dedicated the win to his daughter who had been injured earlier in the week.
