Virginia Lottery Wrestles with Championship Caliber In the SPRINT TWIN 75sSouth Boston, VA....Sprint brought out the best in Late Model action for its Twin 75s. World Wrestling Federation star Bob "Hardcore" Holly entered the gates with NASCAR driver/Crew Chief Hermie Sadler and his Virginia Lottery Chevrolet for bullring racing at "America's Hometown Track".
Brandon Butler (#29 Chester, VA) battled a strong Jim Sink (#94 Chesterfield, VA) for position, but it was Peters making his sprint to the finish. Peters claimed his first, individual victory for series sponsor Textilease and his second of the season. Eddie Johnson (#57 Ashland, VA) finished a strong second, followed by Brian King (#81), Jim Sink, and Brandon Butler. Defending NASCAR Atlantic Seaboard Regional Champion, Nick Woodward (#90 High Point, NC), finished sixth. Another 75 laps of great racing, for the Textilease Weekly Racing Series Late Model division, got underway with Peters leading Johnson to the stripe. Jim Sink tagged Eddie Johnson on lap two causing a halt to the charge, but action at the other end of the track brought out the first caution. After a shuffle to get in line, 21 drivers pressed their pedals and racing was back to green, but only for a moment, as "Hardcore" Holly (#15) squared-off in a circle on the frontstretch. Peters was able to get some breathing room, as Butler and King (#81) battled for second. Blazing at both ends of the speedway saw battles for position in every turn. Woodward moved onto the leaderboard in fourth, as Peters pressed for a straightaway advantage over Butler. Peters never relinquished the lead and swept the twin events. Peters will now be subject to the competition rule for the July 3rd event. His two wins in a row will ensure that he cannot start higher than sixth. "I tell you what, it's been a great night. Everybody put this thing together" said an emotional Timothy Peters, "I thank God and it being Father's Day, I thank my dad. I really appreciate everything that everybody has done. It's all for you!" In the Super Stock 20 lapper, Timmy Ferrell (#3 Durham, NC) shot out to a commanding lead over Brent Evans (#44 Durham, NC) and finished with the victory. Point leader, Billy Goble, slipped on the last lap and finished in the rear of the field. Junior Hancock finished third and closed on the division point lead. Brent Farrell (#55 Durham, NC) led as a three-wide battle waged in turn two. Lee Anderson (#01) could not hold his line and spun out of the battle, as Farrell paced for the win. Augie Saccoccio (#15 Durham, NC) could not mount a challenge and finished second. American General Limited Sportsman cranked up for 40 laps with polesitter Billy Myers (#05 Hurt, VA) having to make a second green flag run, as Jody James (#3 South Boston, VA) spun in turn three on the first try. Myers was bested by Bill Moshenek (#27 Providence, NC) at the start, but battled back for the lead while Ryan Francisco (#81 Nathalie, VA) nosed it into a three-way battle. Francisco powered to the outside of Myers and dove to the inside of Moshenek clawing for the lead at halfway. After battling side-by-side for ten laps, Francisco wedged into the lead through lap-traffic and held on for his second straight win. Myers managed to wrangle second from Moshenek and retained a tight point lead over a charging Francisco.
