Atlantic Seaboard Champion Woodward prepares for first ASA start

South Boston, Va. (March 23) - Nick Woodward, Track Champion at both South Boston and Southampton Speedways in Virginia, extends his racing career one more rung up the stock-car ladder April 7 at South Boston Speedway.

The 21-year-old driver will make his ACDelco American Speed Association (ASA) debut in the Textilease Medique 300.

Woodward, the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series National Runner-up, will drive a car sponsored by Hardee's and will sport his familiar Hills Bros Coffee decals on the lower rear quarter panels and TV panel of the car.

Woodward landed the ride by winning a fan vote held at Sheetz convenience stores and at the speedway on March 11. The winner was awarded a promoter's option for the race. Woodward is guaranteed a spot in the race regardless of his qualifying position or the results of the qualifying races held on Friday, April 6.

"I would like to thank the fans for giving me this opportunity to try a new level of racing," Woodward said. "I would also like to thank South Boston Speedway, Hardee's and Wade Stewart for supplying the opportunity to the fans and the car for the race."

Wade Stewart, owner of Screaming Eagle Motorsports, which already fields a car in the series for son Greg Stewart, has agreed to field a second car for the event.

"We were looking to gain some points on our second car," Stewart said. "We finished 12th in the points last year with my son and we're hoping to gain some points towards the season standings looking forward to next year. Joe Mattioli, South Boston Speedway President, wanted to give something back to the fans. This is their choice for the event."

Woodward will make use of the Hills Bros Coffee Pit Crew, which handles pit duties weekly for NASCAR veteran Hut Stricklin on the Winston Cup circuit. The Winston Cup series will be racing at Martinsville the following day, making it possible for them to offer their assistance Saturday night.

The ASA event will be part of a weekend's worth of activity at South Boston Speedway. Time trials begin at 5:30 and are followed by a 100-lap qualifying race for AC Delco Late Models at 8 p.m. Fans attending Martinsville Speedway's time trials Friday can use their ticket stubs for two-for-one admission. Fans attending events either Friday or Saturday at Martinsville can use their stub to receive $5 off general admission at South Boston on Saturday. Call toll free 1-877-440-1540 to purchase tickets.

Woodward will be at South Boston Speedway this Saturday for the Twin 75-lap races with current car owner Steve James. Woodward will also attend a test session for the ASA race on March 28th.
