LUCAS BOOSTS LATE MODEL STOCK LEADKENLY _ With a strong third-place showing in a 26-car lineup in last Saturday night's 200-lap feature, veteran Wilson driver Billy Ray Lucas boosted his Late Model Stock points lead to 50. Raleigh's Tony Grady finished second in the 200-lapper and also moved into second place in the points. Third and 54 points off Lucas' pace is rookie Ryan Rhodes of Sanford. Newport's Jim Kelley, the 2000 champion who was challenging Lucas for the top points spot, finished last in last Saturday night's race as the result of his car's early-race problems and tumbled to fourth in the standings. Kelley now trails by 56 points. John Jones of Goldsboro and rookie Wil Smith of Raleigh now share the Pro Trucks lead with 346 points. Pikeville's Mark Howell trails by a mere eight points, while Linwood Mozingo of Pikeville dipped from first to fourth with 336 points. Pikeville's Jamie Mozingo, the son of Linwood Mozingo, commands the Stock Look-Alike ranks with 426 points. Next is Junior Mewborn of LaGrange with 390. Twin wins last Saturday night boosted John Whaley of Goldsboro into the Super Stock point lead with 368 points. Second is Gary Davis of Kinston with 358. Wilson's Gary Gardner, the early pacesetter, has slipped to third with 342 points. Twin 60-lap races in the Late Model Sportsman division highlight the Burnin' Rubber 265 auto racing lineup at Southern National Speedway on Saturday night. Other features will be 25 laps in Lee Motor Company Stock Four-Cylinder and Foss Auto Salvage Stock Look-Alike, 35 laps in Super Stock and 60 laps in Budweiser Pro Trucks. Late Model Stock drivers will not be competing. The grandstands open at 4 p.m. and the green flag drops for the first of six features at 7:30. Admission is $12 in the grandstands for adults and $8 for ages 10-16. Children ages 9 and under are admitted free. --SNS PR
