Wilkinson III Comes Into Huntsville Southern All Stars Event With Point LeadHUNTSVILLE, AL--The Southern All Stars Asphalt Racing Series will be making it first of two appearances at the 1/4 mile oval Friday night April 13th for a 200 lap event, the third race of the 2001 season. In the first two events of the year it has been Birmingham area drivers that have took the wins with John Wilkinson III winning the opener at Birmingham then on a very cold night in Nashville Ken McFarland of Hueytown, scored his third career Southern All Stars win. Friday night at Huntsville the Birmingham area drivers will try to make it three in a row, but will face some stiff competition from drivers throughout the southeast. Wilkinson III is currently the points leader and will be action along with 2000 series Champion Ricky Turner of Dawonsville, GA, Ken McFarland, 2001 GRIPP Tire Prep Rookie of the Year candidate J R Norris of Hueytown, AL, David Hole of Cumming, GA, Jeremy Rice of Royston, GA, Ronnie Sanders of Fayetteville, GA, Johnny Wall of Huntsville, AL, Jackie McGuire of Pelham, AL, Jason Hogan of Cleveland, GA, Gary Nix of Adamsville, AL, Wayne Willard of Dacula, GA, J R Dudley of Conyers, GA, Bobby Hill of Jefferson, GA, Tim Fryar of Chattanooga, TN, Gary Helton of Sevierville, TN, and many more are expected to compete this weekend. Local area drivers who are expected to compete include Dan Beddingfield, Johnny Brazier, John Henager Jr, Tony Walls and Keith Cahela. As always Huntsville will provide tight fast racing and this is the shortest track these cars will run on all year so a track record is not of the question as with the race in Nashville last month as the track record was broke 8 times in qualifying. Pit gates will open at 2:30 p.m. practice will be gin at 4:30 p.m. qualifying is et for 6:30 p.m. and race time set for 7:30 p.m.
