Dustin Storm Takes Home Twin Victories..Or Does He?

The hottest driver at the Old Dominion Speedway as of late has been Dustin Storm from Prince Frederick Md. The youngster has been dominant over the last month in the Bailey's NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Late Model Stock Cars. He continued his dominance once again in the Twin 50 lap features Saturday night, taking home wins in both ends of the double header.

Having to fight his way up through the field, Storm clearly had the strongest car once again. But after the races were complete, two protests were waged against the Team FAXWORLD machine, one for the crankshaft and one for the cylinder heads. The crankshaft proved to be within the rules, but questions were raised about the cylinder heads.

"We are sending the cylinder heads off of Storm's motor to Daytona Beach this week for further inspection," said track promoter Dick Gore at around 1 AM. So at this point, the wins, and the point lead for Storm are on hold. All payoffs for the Late Model finish will be suspended until the final word from NASCAR. And rest assured, regardless of all the posts on a particular bulletin board on the net, the heads WILL in fact be shipped to NASCAR.

Other racing action for the evening included a 50 lap feature for the Redman Fleet Service Grand Stocks. And once again, it was Jimmy Hardin from Pomfret Md. taking home the victory over Chris Donnelly. It was Hardin's 6th feature win for 2001, and 4th in a row. Donnelly came home in the runner-up spot for the 4th time in a row as well.

Next Saturday night, the Late Model Stock cars will do battle in the Bailey's 200 lap feature. The Grand Stocks will compete in a 50 lap feature, along with a 30 lap feature for the Mini Stocks, and a 25 lap event for the Speedway Sportsman. Also on the schedule are feature events for the Champ Karts and the Mini Cups. Lustine Chevrolet Quick Qualifying begins at 5:15 PM, with racing action set for 7:00 PM.
