Gatorade 290With the rain and thunderstorms finally out of the way, Orange County Speedway hosted the Gatorade 290 Saturday night. It was a big night for first time winners. Frank Deiny, Jr., driving the David Westcott Pontiac, started on the pole position. Barry Beggarly took the lead on the first lap and held Deiny off until lap 25 when Deiny was able to regain the lead and hold on for his first OCS win in the 150-lap feature. Beggarly was on the bumper of Deiny the rest of the way with Scott Kirkpatrick in strong pursuit of the position as well; Beggarly settled for second with Kirkpatrick in third. Terry Dease continues his strong run with a fourth place finish and double-winner from the last event David Triplett finished in fifth. The Limited Sportsman division ran twin 40-lap features with Craig Moore taking his first win in the first event. Daryl Carver and Bill Barber crossed the finish line in second and third but failed post-race inspection, moving Jonathan Cash and Chris King into second and third positions. Peyton Sellers (who was leading the race but involved in an incident with a lapped car) brought his car from the rear to finish in fourth with Jerry Hinesley in fifth. In the second feature, Peyton Sellers took the win but Craig Moore made a strong chase. Moore finished in second with Cash taking home third, Daryl Carver took the fourth position and Chris Denny in fifth. In the Coca-Cola Grand Stocks, it looked like Timmy Ferrell was headed for his second win in a row but point leader Brent Evans had other ideas. Evans only lead four laps at the end to win and Evans took home another win with Ferrell in second place. Brian Cole had a third place finish with Billy Purnell in fourth and James Turner in fifth. Randy Richardson was back in winning form in the Budweiser Modified 4 division with Tracey Chambers taking home second. Josh Baker took third place with Kevin Smith in fourth and last week’s winner Tim Bailey finishing in fifth. Division sponsor Augie Saccoccio (Augie’s Art) got his first win at OCS in the Pure Stock 4 division. Point's leader Jeff Wilson gave chase but finished in second with Dennis Sargent taking home third. Tony Lassister was the fourth place runner with Tony Beam in fifth. The next event at Orange County Speedway will be Saturday, June 9. The Talbert Building Supply 285 will headline with double features (a 100-lap feature and a 75-lap feature) for the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Late Model Stocks. The Limited Sportsman division will run for 50 laps, with 25 laps for the Coca-Cola Grand Stocks, 20 laps for the Budweiser Modified 4’s, and 15 laps for the Augie’s Art Works/Gearhead’s Pure Stock 4’s.
