Orange County Recap - April 28th

Rougemont, NC (April 28, 2001) - Twin 75's were on tap for the Late Models this Saturday at the Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC. When the evening was finished, Scott Kirkpatrick added two more trophies to the ever-growing trophy chest of Bailey's Racing as the #52 of Kirkpatrick just could not be beat.

Kirkpatrick sat on the pole for both of the 75 lappers and he finished in the number one spot for both events as well. Barry Beggarly could not reel in the #52 of Kirkpatrick as Beggarly finished second for both events.

Keith Clapp made a strong showing in the first twin 75, finishing third. A blown engine in the second event brought the #36 of Clapp in early.

For race one, positions 4-10 were: Triplett, Patterson, Dease, Deiny, Stovall, Lawson and Ryan Gray. Race two saw Deiny, Patterson, Dease, Stovall, Lawson, Todd Massey, Gray and Mike Chambers finish third through tenth.

Raliegh's Deac McCaskill was suprisingly missing from each event's top 10.

The Goody's Dash race saw veteran Robert Huffman battle with 2000 Rookie of the Year Cam Strader until problems after a pit stop took Huffman out of contention.

To secure a win, Strader would have to punt front runner, Shane Hmeil, out of first place with two laps to go. The boo-birds came out for this popular North Carolina driver when he emerged from his vehicle after a long talk with the NASCAR officials.

The Top 10 unofficial Dash finishers were:

1. Cam Strader
2. Roger Sawyer
3. Johnny Chapman
4. Scott Weaver
5. Jake Hobgood
6. Justin Hobgood
7. Mike McConnell
8. Larry Caudill
9. Shane Hmeil
10. Kelly Sutton
