Orange County Speedway Practice Highlights

Saturday March 10, brought opening day of practice for the 2001 season to the 3/8 mile, high banked race track of Orange County Speedway.

Several Late Model drivers were on hand including Ryan Gray of Raleigh NC, Deac McCaskill also of Raleigh, Rookie Cliff Davis of Hillsborough, Mike Chambers of Timberlake NC and Glenn Stovall of Roxboro NC.

The buzz at the track was over the new Hoosier tires that the Late Models will be on this year. After the first round of practice was over, the buzz grew even louder as the drivers talked about how well they liked the tire.

The fastest lap of the day unofficially was awarded to Ryan Gray. Gray turned a lightning fast lap of 14.508 seconds.

Cliff Davis, a rookie in the Late Model ranks this year, also turned some quick laps in his first venture out in the Late Model.

Ones to watch this year: definitely watch Ryan Gray. Ryan has high hopes this year and with a little bit of luck, he will be tough to beat. Deac is also a threat whenever he pulls into the race track, so watch him also.

Rookie Cliff Davis may also turn some heads this year. With a little seat time, this guy will be one to reckon with.
