RADFORD - Heat, humidity, and rain did not stop the racing at the New River Valley Speedway this weekend for the Budweiser/Edens Distributing 275. After setting up and practicing for the heat, the surface of the track was changed by a brief shower of rain during qualifying. The NASCAR Late Model Stock cars were only half finished with their qualifying efforts when the rain came, causing the entire field to re-qualify.

The Late Model Stock cars went straight from qualifying to racing in their 200 lap feature event. Phillip Morris (01) showed his dominance at the speedway again, leading the most laps. But due to post race inspection findings, the number 01 of Morris was disqualified, awarding Chad Harris (02) his first victory of the season. There were only seven cautions for 205 laps of racing. The extra five laps were the result of a late race caution caused by a spin out by Jerry Godbey (00).

Hank Turman (0) held off a hard charging Wade Day (96). Turman was awarded second and Day finished the night in third. Randy Ratliffe (3) came in fourth with Tink Reedy moving up to fifth after the disqualification of Morris.

Turman said, "I thought Wade (Day) was going to get me. We just came here, and changed our setup again. We didn't know it was going to be this hot, but we did the best we could."

All four NASCAR sanctioned divisions return to the speedway on August 18th for the Roanoke Valley Harley Davidson/Buell 200 featuring twin 50's for the Late Model Stock Cars. The UCARS will also be running a 25 lap race that evening. Don't miss the fun and excitement with NASCAR in your backyard.
