Goody's Dash Invades NRVLizzie Starck NRVS Writer Radford- The NASCAR Goody's Dash series made a visit to Radford's very own New River Valley Speedway on Saturday at the Old Milwaukee 250 presented by FM 94. Among the Goody's Dash drivers was Tim Nichols in the #52 car. Nichols is from Cedar Bluff, VA, and raced a full season in the Late Model Stock Car division at the New River Valley Speedway in 2000. Nichols ran in both races tonight, the Goody's Dash and in the Late Model Stock division, finishing 5th in the Dash series race and in the top ten of the LMSC race. "A top ten finish at NRVS is as good as a win anywhere else," Nichols commented on his NRVS appearance. He was glad to be back racing at NRVS and he said his two great finishes made it a wonderful night. "We did what we set out to do," Nichols commented on his association with the Gift of Love charity. Nichols was here raising money for the charity out of Oakwood, VA. Nichols was unsure about the exact amount raised but knew it was way over $3,000. He raised the money from donations from Mag-Klip, Old Milwaukee, and the souvenir trailer. He was very pleased with tonight's results and said he would definitely be back in the future. Robert Huffman (37) won the Bud Pole Award but started in the third position after the inversion leaving Shane Hmiel (26) starting on the pole position. There were three leaders throughout the race. Hmiel for 65, Cam Strader (6) for 36 and Huffman for 47 laps and on his way to the checkered flag. "We are here to win those points," Huffman replied after his win. Jake Hobgood (64) finished in second with Cam Strader (6) in third. "This is a great race track. I hope we come back next year," Strader exclaimed excitedly. The Late Model Stock Car class met up again this week for a 100-lap race after a rained out race last week with Philip Morris (01) grabbing his 13th pole of the season but started 6th due to the inversion giving Michael Kidd (49) the pole over the field of 25. Points leader, Chad Harris (02), took the lead from Kidd on lap 3, as Kidd was shuffled back through the pack. Harris held the top spot for only a few laps as Morris passed him on his way to leading 88 laps to take the checkered flag. Wade Day (96), who finished the race third, moved up to second after Harris was disqualified for an unapproved radiator in post race inspections. Tink Reedy was awarded the third position the same night he was honored with the Curtis Turner Hard Charger Award for the month of July. Make sure to make room in your calendar for August 11th for the Budweiser/Edens Distributing 275. Mini Stocks and Late Model Trucks will be back in the action and a 200-lap Late Model Stock Car race is closing up the evening of speed.
