New River Valley Ready for Opener

by Kenny Lang

New River Valley Speedway in Radford, VA will open the 2001 racing season this Saturday night at 7:00pm. It will be the fourteenth consecutive year that NRVS has run under the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series banner.

The Late Model Stock Cars will be the featured division again this season. Many competitors have made their intentions of running the full season at the .416 mile paved oval this season. Wade Day heads up the list. Day is the defending track champ at Galaxy Kingsport Speedway and also is the defending Blue Ridge Region champion. He will be joined by many others, including 2000 NRVS track champ Chad Harris, who was runner-up in Blue Ridge Points last year. 1999 track champ and two-time most popular driver in LMSC Tink Reedy will sport Bailey's as his primary sponsor as he attempts to regain his championship form of two years ago.

Other top names in LMSC racing who will make NRVS home this season are: Butch Hamlet, Steve Lynch, Brandon Nichols, Matt Wolfe, Ray Young, Rick Sigmon, Clay Highberger, Jon Wood, Orvil Reedy, Phillip Morris, and many others!

Late Model Trucks, Pure Stocks, and Mini Stocks will be the other divisions that run on a weekly basis.

Touring series that will be at NRVS this season are the Featherlite Modifieds, Goody's Dash Series, and the Hooter ProCup Series.

Live TV returns to the speedway in July when Roanoke,VA CBS affiliate WDBJ7 will broadcast a 200 lap LMSC race. This will mean great exposure for all LMSC teams and sponsors in the area!

Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for students, and $2 for children under 12!

All indications are for a terrific season competition and car count wise in 2001!!
