Davidson Bests PARTS Truck Field at Lanier

by Jeff Hood

BRASELTON, GA (June 30, 2001) - Mike Davidson pushed his No. 6 Chevrolet = past polesitter Chet Chester on lap 50 of 100 to score his first win in 2001 in the PARTS Pro Truck Series at Lanier National Speedway Saturday night. It was a popular win for the Lula, GA resident in a race run under threatening skies.

Davidson, who started fourth, said after the race "I want to thank Chet Chester. I passed him in turn one and we got together. It was probably my fault because I got onto the apron and slid into him. He could have turned me but he decided to race. He was a real good sport."

In an event slowed by three cautions, it turned into a nine-lap sprint to the finish. But Davidson was able to pull away from the field when the green waved as he easily outdistanced Chester, Rodger Adkins, Kevin Barrett, and Richard Johns.

Davidson commented in victory lane, "everybody out there raced hard. We had a good truck tonight and we've been close with this truck here before but it blew up and we couldn't quite get there. I want to thank Ronnie Milford and Hartwell Tool Rental. And thanks to Tina Brown Stephens for spotting for me tonight."

"To win is just unreal. We left another series and come back to this and I guess we're going to stay for a while. They welcomed us back after the other crowd beat us out of our money. I want to thank Larry Evans (of the PARTS Pro Trucks Series) for what he's doing. These motors equaling it out make it a lot of fun to race. Thanks to Lanier for having us and all the fans."

Results were unofficial late Saturday evening due to a review of scoring to determine if Dusty Williams finished on the lead lap. PARTS scorers, officials, and Evans huddled late Saturday evening to make a decision. Visit www.partsprotrucks.com for official results.

In Simpson's Trucking & Grading Sportsman action Kevin Stephens notched another win in his dominant season with a wire-to-wire victory in the caution free 30 lapper.

Curt Britt collected his third win in four weeks in the Sunoco Ministock division. With the victory, he will donate $1,350.00 to Rhubarb Jones' March Across Georgia to help cure Leukemia. Britt donated all winnings at Lanier in the month of June. Britt narrowly edged Brian Huff and Steve Hill for the victory Saturday night.

The Pro Challenge Series based in Tennessee made its inaugural visit to Lanier and produced a photo-finish as Josh Adams edged Wayne White by inches. Marty Arender, Jay Beebe, and Bennie Hoover rounded out the top-five.

Steve Parris cruised to victory in the Brown Modifieds 15 lap event. He outdistanced Veldee Kemp, Jeff Crane, Jimmy Winibecko, and Kyle Gregson.
