Stephens, Jr Late Model Winner at Lanierby Jeff Hood Braselton, GA (June 9, 2001) - Jamie Stephens, Jr made it a weekend = sweep for his longtime sponsor Williams Bros Lumber by winning Saturday night's Budweiser Pro Late Model 50 lap event for the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series at Lanier National Speedway. While Stephens, Jr and his crew did their part to put his car in victory lane Saturday night at Lanier, corporate teammate and former Lanier National Speedway competitor Ricky Turner collected a Southern-All Star Series victory Friday night in Alabama."Williams Bros has been with me five years now and this is the first one we've won with both owners here - Sonny Calhoun and Jerry Johnson. This is for you guys," said a charged Stephens in victory lane. Stephens started on the outside-front row and powered his way past pole-sitter Clay Dale on lap two. Once he cleared Dale, Stephens steadily pulled away from the field. Stephens was maintaining a half-straightaway lead over second place Tony Bennett when the caution flew for Richie King's spin on lap 24. 20 But even Bennett, who many feel has the best setup on a regular basis for the 3/8th mile track, could only watch as Stephens inched ahead on the restart of the 50 lap affair. It was Stephens' second win of the season and puts him firmly in the hunt for the track championship.
