York Closes In On Hogan In The Points Chase

August 18, 2001 – Asheboro, N.C.— Mother Nature held off long enough for the nights events at the speedway to take place. In the bicycle races Will Campbell of Martinsville, VA, Troy Burr of Asheboro, Patrick Yountz of Sophia, Randy Worthington of High Point and Justin Smith of Randleman each won their division.

The NASCAR Late Model Stock event started with Brad Brinkley of Sanford capturing his first Pole Award of the season. Brinkley would lead over half of the 50 lap event before “The Reidsville Rocket” Jason York would take over the lead and continue to the checkered flag. Brinkley would bring home a career best finish of second. Travis Swaim of High Point, Billy Hogan of Troy and Junior Cox of Randleman rounded out the top five finishers. In the points battle York is only 4 points shy of leader Hogan. Jerry Burr of Asheboro went into the event in second place but would loose valuable points after the track bar broke in the rear end causing him to finish 18 out of the 20 car field.

In the Limited Late Model event Casey Kepley Jr. of Lexington captured the Pole Award. Jeff Garrison of Clemmons took home the win. James Triplett of Lexington, Mike Bledsoe of Elon, Kepley Jr. and Brandon Hire of Lexington rounded out the top five finishers.

In the Super Sport event A. J. Lain of High Point captured his first win of the season. Travis Jarrett of Lexington, Gary Ledbetter of Lexington, Angela Morgan of Archdale and Steven Worthington of High Point rounded out the top five finishers.

In the Mini Stock event Paul Wark of High Point took home the win. Junior Kendrick of Thomasville, Chris Brown of Siler City, Randy Slater of Colfax and Robert Moreau of Winston Salem rounded out the top five finishers.

In the Super Mini Truck event Waylon Saunders of Asheboro captured the win. Dean Deweese of Thomasville, Steve Collins of Asheboro, Mark Traynham of Jamestown and Lisa Collins Asheboro rounded out the top five finishers.
