Grimes Wins Craftsmen 150

August 4, 2001 – Asheboro, N.C.— Jerry Burr captured the Pole Award for the 150 Lap Late Model Stock portion of Craftsman Night. Stephen Grimes of Siler City, known as “The Grimey One”, lead from flag to flag, winning the event. Jason York of Reidsville, Robert Tyler of High Point, Burr, Billy Lhogan of Troy, Gregg Anderson of Roseville, California, Dan Moore of Bear Creek, Randy Benson of Rockingham, Brad Brinkley of Sanford and Steve Loftin of Thomasville rounded out the top ten finishers.

In the 30 lap Limited Late Model Martinsville’s Clay Campbell captured the victory after the two front runners, Brandon Hire of Lexington and Tommy Moody of Sophia crashed on the white flag lap. Jeff Garrison of Clemmons, James Triplett of Lexington, Casey Kepley Jr. of Winston Salem and Larry Sink of Lexington rounded out the top five finishers.

In the Super Sport event Travis Jarrett of Lexington took the checkered flag but was disqualified after a technical inspection of the top five finishers. Gary Ledbetter of Lexington was declared the winner. Angela Morgan of Archdale, Randy Dunn of Carthage, David Shough of Randleman and Bryan Cagle of Carthage rounded out the top five finishers.

In the Mini Stock event Robert Moreau of Winston Salem captured his first victory of the season. Joe Robertson of Thomasville, Jason White of Siler City, Chris Brown of Siler City and Paul Wark of High Point rounded out the top five finishers.

In the Super Mini Truck event Johnny Henderson of Asheboro captured his first victory of the season. Waylon Saunders of Asheboro and Mark Traynham of Jamestown rounded out the top three finishers.

Coming up next Saturday Night will be Arctic Cat Kid’s Night featuring bike races for the kids and rides in the race cars. Also on hand will be a 50 lap Late Model Stock event along with the Limited Late Models, Super Sports, Mini Stocks and Super Mini Trucks. Pits and Backside Gates open at 4pm. Grandstands open at 6pm and the racing gets underway at 8pm. Directions: Take US 220 Bypass to the Spero Road Exit and follow the signs.
