Walkertown’s Scott Hall Takes Home The Bailey’s Firecracker 300 Victory

By: Renee Hackett

Asheboro, NC (July 5, 2001) — The Bailey’s Firecracker 300 started out with Josh Richeson of Mooresville capturing the Pole Award by posting a 17.268 second lap. After a mandatory redraw of the top six, Rookie Rusty Harpe of Winston Salem started on the pole along side of Richeson.

As the green flag waved, Harpe took the lead, but could not hold off Scott Hall, as he took over the lead on lap 3. Jason York of Reidsville was strong and took over the lead on lap 30 and would lead the most laps of the 300 lap event.

Frank Deiny Jr. of Mechanicsville, Virginia and York battled for several laps and would tango, bringing out the last caution. York would spin and several other top runners would also spin including Jerry Burr of Asheboro. While under caution the heavy down pours began, causing the 300 lap event to end on lap 298. Hall would be the leader and be crowned the 300 lap winner.

York, Steve Loftin of Thomasville, Jamey Caudill of Four Oaks, Dan Moore of Bear Creek, Deiny, Burr, Billy Hogan of Troy, Penn Crim Jr. of Belews Creek and Rodney Cook of Reidsville rounded out the top ten finishers.

Coming up Friday Night will be a 150 Lap SMART Modified event. Also on hand will be the Late Model Super Trucks, Street Stocks, U-Cars and Legends. Pits open at 2pm. Grandstands open at 6pm and the racing action gets under way at 8pm. Directions: Take US 220 Bypass to the Spero Road exit and follow the signs.
