York Grabs The Track Points Lead Away From Hogan

Asheboro, NC (June 23, 2001) – —Freeman’s Auto Center 150 was just what “The Reidsville Rocket”, known as Jason York, needed to get ahead of Billy Hogan of Troy in the Track Championship Points Chase. York captured the victory and tied Hogan for the points, but has one more win than his competition, giving him the lead by wins.

“Mr. Excitement”, known as Jimmy Mullins of Collinsville, Virginia posted the fastest qualifying lap with a speed of 93.499 mph. After a mandatory redraw of the top six qualifiers Snow Camp’s Gary Causey and High Point’s Robert Tyler would start on the front. Causey would take the lead and stay there until lap 41. York would make a daring pass on the outside for the lead and stay out front capturing his 5th victory of the season. Jerry “The Jet” Burr of Asheboro, Rusty Harpe of Winston Salem, Steve Loftin of Thomasville and Mullins rounded out the top five finishers.

In the 30 Lap Limited Late Model event Martinville’s Clay Campbell captured the pole award. James Triplett of Lexington captured his fourth victory of the season. Brandon Hire of Lexington posted a career best finish of second. Casey Kepley Jr. of Winston Salem, James Boling of Randleman and Jeff Garrison of Clemmons rounded out the top five finishers.

In the 20 lap Super Sport event David Thomas of Randleman captured his fifth victory of the season. David Shough of Randleman, Randy Dunn of Carthage, Gary Ledbetter of Lexington and Jimmy Maness of Asheboro rounded out the top five finishers.

In the 15 lap Mini Stock event Junior Kendrick of Thomasville captured the victory. Rodney Creason of Asheboro, Robert Aldrich of High Point, Brad Queen of Stokesdale and Jason White of Siler City rounded out the top five finishers.

In the 15 lap Super Mini Truck event Steve Collins of Asheboro captured the victory. Waylon Saunders of Asheboro, Keith Wagoner of Martinsville, Virginia, Steven Collins of Asheboro and Mark Traynham of Thomasville rounded out the top five finishers.

Coming up this Saturday Night will be 50 lap NASCAR Late Model Stock event. Also on hand will be a 30 lap Limited Late Model, 20 lap Super Sport, 15 Lap Mini Stock and 15 Lap Super Mini Truck events. Pits and backside gates open at 4pm. Grandstands open at 6pm and the racing action gets underway at 8pm. Directions: Take US 220 Bypass to the Spero Road exit and follow the signs.
