York Narrows The Gap On Points Leader HoganBy: Renee HackettJune 16, 2001 – Asheboro, N.C.—Jerry “The Jet” Burr of Asheboro captured the Pole Award for the Clubvette 50 Lap NASCAR Late Model Stock event. Points leader Billy Hogan of Troy experienced engine problems in practice and had to start in Brad Brinkley’s car. Jason York of Reidsville would reap the rewards by capturing the victory and slicing Hogan’s point lead to 16. Burr, Scott Hall of Walkertown, Steve Loftin of Thomasville and Junior Cox of Asheboro rounded out the top five finishers. Hogan finished in the sixth spot and Jamie Skinner (son of Winston Cup Driver Mike) would compete for the first time of the season only to have his engine expire knocking him out of contention. Coming up this Saturday Night will be Freeman’s Auto Center Night featuring a 150 lap NASCAR Late Model Stock event. Also on hand will be a 30 lap Limited Late Model, 20 lap Super Sport, 15 Lap Mini Stock and 15 Lap Super Mini Truck events. Pits and backside gates open at 4pm. Grandstands open at 6pm and the racing action gets underway at 8pm. Directions: Take US 220 Bypass to the Spero Road exit and follow the signs.
