Caraway Speedway Honors Its Drivers At The 17th Annual Awards BanquetAsheboro, NC (Jan. 6) - The 2000 Season at Caraway Speedway came to an end at the Joseph Koury Convention Center in Greensboro. Over 100 awards were presented to the drivers and crew. Joe Collins of Nascar Inc., congratulated the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series drivers on a tremendous year.
Jason York, known as "The Reidsville Rocket", was honored for capturing his first Track Championship. York's' crew chief/father, John York won the Borg Warner Championship Crew Chief Award. York's' engine builder Darrell Poe won the Goldwrench True Value Mechanic of The Year for the Region and The Nation. Rusty Harpe was honored for capturing the Exide Shortrack series Limited Stock Championship. Pure Stock champion David Thomas, Accel Charger Baby Grand Stock Champion Paul Wark of High Point and Super Mini Truck Track Champion Dean Deweese of Thomasville received cash and awards for there titles. The Fun Friday Series drivers were also honored. Archie Adams Jr. of McColl, S.C. took home his second consecutive Late Model Super Truck Championship title. Legends returning champion Wayne Austin of High Point, Street Stocks returning champion Gary Ledbetter of Lexington, and the Inaugural U-Car champion Ray Craver Jr. of Lexington were also honored. The remaining top five drivers in every division also received cash and awards for there efforts. Many special awards ere presented including the Freeman Auto Center Rookie of The Year Awards to Jerry Burr of Asheboro (LMSC), James Triplett of Clemmons (LS), Greg McDaniel of Siler City (PS), Joe McDonald of Thomasville (BGS), Chris Dupree of West End (SMT), Neil Welborn of Trinity (LMST), Bill Price of Mt. Gilead (LEG) and Eddie Mincey of Thomasville (SS). Most Improved drivers were Brad Brinkley of Sanford (LMSC), Champion Harpe(LS), Bobby Hudson of Bear Creek(PS), Rodney Creason of Asheboro (BGS), Chris Henderson of Asheboro(SMT), Larry Shackleford of Randleman (LMST), Jan Ingram of Shelby(LEG) and Gary Maness of Bennett (SS). The Frosty Keg Most Popular Driver Awards were presented to York (LMSC), Jeff Garrison of Clemmons (LS), Hudson (PS), Creason (BGS), Kristin Loveland of Randleman (SMT), Welborn (LMST), Travis Jarrett of Lexington (SS), Austin (LEG) and Craver Jr. (U-Car). Kip Childress presented the champions with gift certificates from Racing Radio's. The H/H Trophy and Awards Team Player of The Year Awards were presented to Eddie York – brother of LMSC Champion Jason York , Travis Jarrett – Nephew of LMSC driver Gene Kepley of Lexington, Ronnie Metcalf – crew chief with the Jeff Garrison Limited Stock team, Gilbert Blair – crew chief for Rusty Loggins' Pure Stock team, Tim Atkins-Crew chief for the Rodney Creasons' Baby Grand Stock team and John Loveland – father and crew chief for Kristin Loveland's' Super Mini Truck team. Caraway Speedway will open the 2001 racing season on March 24th featuring a 150 Lap NASCAR Late Model Stock event. Fun Friday's will begin on June 1st.
