KIMMEL ANSWERS ATLANTA WITH NEW TRACK RECORD

HAMPTON GA, 11-15-01 - He went out last but he came out first. Frank Kimmel, in the final seconds of qualifying, bumped Stuart Kirby off the Old Milwaukee pole here Thursday at Atlanta Motor Speedway with a new track record (188.854 mph) for Saturday's Pork The Other White Meat 400. Kirby, the second to last car to qualify, bumped Kerry Earnhardt off the pole only seconds before Kimmel went out. It was Kimmel's 11th Old Milwaukee Pole Award of the year.

Defending Northeast Region champion Richard Mitchell will start his Coach USA/Mountaineer Gaming/Forest River Motorhomes Pontiac Grand Prix on the outside of the sixth row in Saturday's ARCA 400K event at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

The Bruceton Mills, WV driver recorded the 12th-fastest time clocking a speed of 184.566 mph over the 1.54 mile quad oval.

"We're happy with our time," Mitchell said. "This is another track we didn't have the opportunity to test at, so we had to make a bunch of changes to the car during practice. We only had 16 laps of practice before we qualified, and we got faster every time out."

Mitchell, who is coming off a solid 5th place finish at Talladega Superspeedway in his last ARCA outing, feels he has an excellent chance for a podium finish.

"The car feels very comfortable, and I really like this race track. It drives a great deal like Chicagoland," Mitchell added. "We'll work on our race setup Friday during happy hour, and I think we'll run right up front Saturday."

The Atlanta ARCA 400K will be telecast live at 1:00 PM Eastern time Saturday, Nov. 17th on the TNT cable network. The contest will also be broadcast live on the Performance Racing Radio Network.
