Kilby Wins Rain-Shortened All-Star EventMontgomery, AL (May 20, 2001) - Scott Kilby's early charge to the front paid off Saturday night in the ARA Late Model Stock All-Stars 200 at Montgomery Motor Speedway, as heavy rains settled in at the race's midway point, forcing a stoppage at lap 101, giving Kilby his second victory of the 2001 season.
By lap 5, Huffman had crept into the third spot, with Frampton Ferguson and Scott Hall leading the way. On lap 10, Hall went inside of Ferguson heading into Turn 1, grabbing the lead on the backstretch. Huffman followed suit, with Scott Kilby getting in line as well, putting Ferguson in fourth. Kilby wasted no time passing Huffman, then took his hooked up machine to the lead by lap 20 and paced the field for the remainder of the first half of the race. By the midway point, Tim Weaver had pulled past Huffman and Hall, apparently saving their left side tires for the end, for second, while Ferguson was holding on for fifth. Greg Marlowe, who had charged into the top five early, was suffering from mechanical problems and had to pit during an early caution. Quick work on the part of his crew put him back out on the lead lap, and by the midway point, he had worked his way up to seventh, satisfied to have another 100 laps to work the field. Those 100 laps would never come, though, as the rains moved in during the mandatory halfway pit stop and never let up. The ARA All-Stars travel to Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, Virginia this coming Saturday May 26th, for Round Eight in the Pepsi Cola 125. The 200 lapper was the only scheduled visit for the All-Stars to Montgomery this season.
