RAY YOUNG TAKES AWESOME ACE SPEEDWAY OPENER

Altamahaw, North Carolina.Before one of the largest opening race crowds at Ace Speedway, Ray Young from Bassett, Virginia sped to victory this Friday night, April 6th in the awesome 75 lap main event for the NASCAR Weekly Racing Budweiser Late Model Stock Cars on BMOC Night.

Young, the 1999 Ace Speedway Late Model Champion set fast time but started in 5th in the inversion of the top five fastest qualifiers in the 21 car field. Mark Rumley took control at the start of the race and held the point for five laps before Gary Causey and Brian King swapped the lead for several laps before Ray Young took the lead on lap 15.

Later in the race Young and Causey had the crowd on their feet as they swapped the lead 5 times from lap 43 to lap 51 before Young took the lead for good on lap 52. Late in the race Young withstood some serious challenges from both Jason York who charged from the rear of the field and Mark Rumley.

However both drivers were later knocked out of the race when they were involved in 6-car pile up when York's car broke and did not come up to speed on a late race restart. Young took his 5th career Ace Speedway Late Model win by two car lengths over Richard Bailey.

Bobby Griffin finished third. He was followed by Speedy Faucette, rookie Zane Hedrick, Jerry Burr, Dean Fogleman, Marvin Oliver, Jerry Holyfield Jr., Mark Crowe, Brian King, Owen Gray, Gary Causey, Mark Rumley, Jason York, Mike Zimmerman, Keith Perry, defending track champion Todd Massey who was involved in a early race mishap with Gary Causey, Phil Williams, Brad Allen, and Buster Carroll.

Roy Cook from Mebane, NC won the Dave's Discount Furniture Modified race over G.C. Agee, Jerry Scott, Bill Wilder, Ed Underwood, Kenny Bates, Larry Cook, and Jimmy Wallace.

Rookie Brian Owens from Burlington, NC won the YMC Mortgage Company Super Stock race over Billy Radford Jr., Don Cook, Brian Gray, Jimmy Rice, Phil Bryant, Lee Edinger, Tony Smith, and Mike Massey. Ricky Sykes from Haw River, NC won the Mini Stock race over Mike Tester, Kevin Anderson, Larry Emory, Corey Agee, Donnie West, Jesse Ingle, Ronnie Cook, Dan Rice, and Billy Radford Sr.,

Rob Thorton won the Virginia Mini Cup race.
