ACE SPEEDWAY OPENS THIS FRIDAY NIGHT

This Friday night, April 6, the roar of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series will be heard again in Alamance County as Ace Speedway opens its 2001 racing season on Burlington Manufacturers Outlet Center (BMOC) Night.

Judging by the large car counts at the pre-season practices the 2001 Ace Speedway season promises to the best ever with many drivers moving up into higher racing classes at the lightning quick 4/10's of a mile asphalt speedway.

Returning as the lead division at Ace Speedway will be the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Budweiser Late Model Stock Cars. Todd Massey from Haw River, NC will be back to defend his 2000 Ace Late Model title in the Eddie Talley-Allan Thoenen mount but the 3-time Ace Champion will have his hands full with the likes of 1999 Ace Late Model Champion Ray Young from Bassett, Virginia, 2000 Caraway Speedway Champion Jason York from Reidsville, NC, Richard Landreth from Pine Hall, NC, Burlington, NC's Brian King in Jim Smith's car, Mebane, NC's Richard Bailey and McLeansville, NC's

Mark Rumley. Other drivers expected include Burlington's Dean Fogleman, Speedy Faucette and Mike Zimmerman, Eden, NC's Bobby Griffin, Kernersville, NC's Marvin Oliver, Gary Causey from Snow Hill, NC in the Crawford Masonry car, Virginian Buster Carroll, sophomore drivers Keith Perry and Toby Tilley, and rookies Jerry Holyfield Jr., Shannon Dowd, Zane Hedrick, Mark Crowe, Owen Gray, and Kenny Bates.

Jerry Scott from Corbette Ridge, NC will be back to defend his title in the Dave's Discount Furniture Modified division. Scott's arch rival Roy Cook will be back along with Virginia drivers G.C. Agee, Ed Underwood, Bruce Belton, Kenny Bates, North Carolina's Bill Wilder, Larry Cook, Steve Paschal, Fred Stem, Gordon Riley, plus several rookie drivers such as Jimmy Wallace and Bryan Bowman and others are slated to compete in the ultra fast open wheel division.

Since last year's Super Stock champion, Shannon Dowd moved to the Late Models the battle for this years SS title will be a wide open affair. Last year's runner-up Billy Radford Jr. rates as a favorite along with former champion Don Cook, Phil Bryant, Jimmy Rice, Jerry King, Brian Owens, Mike Gerringer, Joseph Hollar, Gary Young Jr., rookies Lee Edinger, Mike Massey, Tony Smith, Brian Gray, and others.

Donnie West from Burlington, NC will be back to defend his 2000 Mini Stock title in his sophomore season but will face a tough battle from Robert Aldrich, Ricky Sykes, Billy Radford Sr., Lance McCrickard, Kevin Anderson, Larry Emory, Robert Carmichael, Corey Agee, Jeff Cole, Mike Tester, Dan Rice, and others.

Grandstand gates will open this Friday night, April 6 at 5:30 with racing at 8:00. The Virginia Mini Cups will also be on the fast-paced program. Fox TV-8's Rich Brenner will be on hand as the Grand Marshall of BMOC Night as all the celebrities will turn out for the 2001 opening race at the finest NASCAR weekly racetrack in the Carolinas, Ace Speedway.
